Add-on

Being built, in the open.

There is a backup engine in the tree — it splits files into chunks, encrypts them before they leave your machine and can put them back. None of it is switched on in a shipping install yet, and mounting OneDrive, S3 or a bucket as a folder is not written at all. So this page tells you what is real and nothing else.

What you do with it

What is being built

Nothing you can use today. Rather than dress that up, here is what is actually written.

01

Back up a folder in chunks.

Split, uploaded piece by piece, resumable.

02

Encrypt it before it leaves.

The chunks are encrypted on your machine before any of them leave it, with a key that stays yours.

03

Put it back.

Restore from the catalogue of what was uploaded.

Which bundles include it

How you come by it

One add-on in four bundles is deliberate — the personas genuinely overlap, and holding it twice is never charged twice.

An add-on is not sold on its own — a bundle is, and holding the same add-on through two bundles is never charged twice. See the bundles.

Ships, you switch it on

In the app, off until you move the slider

A fresh install hides anything below the default bar on this add-on’s Minimum readiness slider in Settings › Features. These are in the app today.

  • Everything above, at Experimental. That is two steps below “you probably want this on”, so the page does not invite you to.
Coming soon

Not built, and not charged for
